The NSOU Centre for Social Studies (NSOUCSS) was founded in April 2018 under the School of Social Sciences, NSOU. The aim of the Centre is to pursue research on various issues of social sciences within the School in a comprehensive manner. It is also expected that the Centre will explore cross-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary researches within the broader ambit of social sciences and establish academic links with the other research institutions in a meaningful way.

The Centre and School of Social Sciences, NSOU jointly organized two Days National Seminar on "Caste, Social Formation and Political Mobilization: Modern Bengal in Historical Context" Sponsored by the Department of Higher Education, Science & Technology and Bio-Technology, Govt. of West Bengal on 15th & 16th March 2019.
The Department of Higher Education, Science & Technology and Bio-Technology, Govt. Of West Bengal sanctioned Rs. 200,000/- (Rupees Two Lakh only) for that seminar.
