About the Course:
Children are the assets of our society. However, in our country they are often found to be in unprotected and unsecured circumstances and are exposed to abuses which may be both physical and mental.Thus we need qualified as well as competent people who may address to such problems of children. The objective of the course is to build the capabilities of the professionals who may work confidently in the field of Child Right and Development in future and also explore possibilities for some additional professional developments in this area.
You will learn from readings, videos, discussions with other participants and instructors, exercises, quizzes and assignments. Certification is available for those who wish to complete all the required assignments.
The course has been distributed over six weeks. In the last week learners have to take assignment to earn the completion certificate.
Week 1
Learners will know about the basic concepts related to child Rights and Development. They may develop a clear idea related to the problems of children in our society by looking at the demographic profile of the children of our Nation.
Child in India: Definition of Child, Meaning of the term Child welfare, Child Development and Child Rights; Demographic profile of children in India; Problems of children pertaining to Development and Protection; Role of ICDS and ICPS.
Week 2
Learners will come to know the different constitutional and legal provision to protect our children.
Constitutional and Legal Provisions: Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012; Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection ) of Children Act 2011; Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006; Immoral Traffic Prevention Act 1986; The Commission for protection of Child Rights Act 2005; The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 and POCSO Act-2012, PDW Act 1995; UN Declaration on Child Rights.
Week 3
In this week, the learners will be able to understand the various policies and government schemes for protection and development of our children.
Policies and Schemes for Child Rights: National Policy for Children 1974 and 2013; National Commission for Protection of Child Rights NIPCCD; CARA and SARA Programmes for restoring Child Rights-ICDS, ICPS, NCLP.
Week 4
The learners will explore the various possible areas where the professionals can play an important role in the society for the protection and development of children.
Social Work Intervention: Understanding Social Work and application of Social Work methods in the field of child development and protection; Role of National and International Organization in the field of child welfare and development; Role of CINI, CRY , UNICEF and Save the Children.

Certification is available based on the completion of activities. Certificate of Completion requires 70% on the assignments and participation in at least 5 discussion forums.
Certificate will be issued by the Centre for Lifelong Learning (CLL) under the aegis of School of Vocational Studies, Netaji Subhas Open University
Fees:
Registration Fees of Rs. 500/- is required to pay at the time of registration/admission and those who will opt for Certificate of Completion are required to pay Rs. 500/- for evaluation, assessment and certificate. (Payment to be made through online only).
